Location: Dover

Salary: £25,000 – £29,000


First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Transport Planner on behalf of one of our clients.

To develop and implement plans for the routing of company drivers and vehicles, ensuring all relevant resources are deployed cost-effectively and efficiently.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build loads and plan routes efficiently and effectively, taking into account traffic conditions and driver restrictions and requirements.
  • Regularly review and update plans and communicate with all relevant colleagues, sub-contractors and customers of outcomes and any changes in good time of arrangements being made.
  • Identify any barriers to plans and takes appropriate action to ensure adequate resources are in place and any issues relating to collection, transportation and delivery of goods are addressed.
  • Quote prices for movement of loads upon request.
  • Ensure all company systems are updated accurately and on a timely basis and relevant paperwork is in place.
  • Work closely with workshop colleagues to ensure resource requirements and service schedules are met.
  • Provide cover for the Customer Service Team where required.
  • Promote company values and code of conduct in all that you do and to others you come into contact with.
  • Adhere to company rules, policies, procedures consistently and encourage others to do the same.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation impacting on your role where required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and ensure that confidentiality is applied where appropriate.
  • Provide cover for the Customer Service Team as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualified to Level 3 Supply Chain Operator or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a team-based office environment, preferably in a customer-facing role.
  • IT literate in Microsoft Office packages and have the ability to compile, analyse and interpret relevant data.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of transport regulations and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to use initiative and to be so organised that key tasks can be completed fully and on time.
  • Ability to work to fluid targets and deadlines.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven arithmetic skills.
  • Should be happy working with a team.
