Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Refrigeration Engineer – Transportation for our client to cover Devon. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance, and repair of transport refrigeration equipment.

The successful refrigeration engineer would be based at their Devon Depot in Torquay and will be expected to travel to customer sites and undertake maintenance and repair work on transport refrigeration equipment. This will involve a broad range of tasks from servicing, repairs to electrical and refrigerant systems along with work on diesel engine systems. The engineer will be expected to participate in an emergency call-out rota to provide support to customers at night, weekends and bank holidays. It is therefore important that the engineer has adequate ability and experience to work independently. They will require space to park a 3.5 tonne van at their place of residence. The equipment is now becoming more software driven, and so they will be expected to be able to use a laptop to programme and diagnose faults on equipment.

Skills and Experience:

  • FGAS refrigerant handling qualification (City and Gilds 2079)
  • English, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry desirable.
  • Good legible handwriting, ability to complete forms and documents.
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to liaise effectively with other staff and customers.
  • Practical skills, craft skills and ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Safety awareness and ability to follow instruction.

Conditions:

The position will require the individual to work from 08:30 to 17:00 with a 30 minute break for lunch. There is also a requirement to work overtime as it is a requirement for the engineer to complete work on customer sites before they leave. There is some company clothing provided which once provided is expected to be worn and casual clothing is acceptable at other times. While overalls will be provided the workshop environment is affected by general dirt and therefore clothing should be selected on the basis that it may become dirty. Safety boots are required and provided. There is a rest area in each depot with free tea and coffee, but there are no catering facilities. There are generally only limited facilities at customer premises.

Remuneration:

The basic salary is competence dependent and will be assessed during induction. The expected earnings for a skilled engineer are between £38,000 to £52,00 dependant on overtime worked.

They support the environmentally friendly electric refrigeration systems manufactured by FRIGOBLOCK, who are the market leaders in Europe for low emission transport refrigeration systems and are also the UK distributors for Euroscan temperature recording systems. The demand for clean refrigeration equipment is creating growth within their business.
