Location: Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an HSE Manager on behalf of one of our clients.

Working for a busy independent Hazardous Waste Treatment and Transfer Facility based in Derbyshire. The site accepts and treats a range of commercial and Industrial wastes utilising conventional waste treatment techniques. The company has three sites within the UK and the role may involve some travel between the sites.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • The role of HSE Manager reports directly to the Technical Director and has responsibility for compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation, company procedures and permits at the site.
  • Work closely with the operations team to ensure that all staff receive the correct level of training and are competent to carry out their duties. The HSE manager will Promote Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives through strong leadership.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all relevant H&S documentation such as Permit to Work, Risk Assessments and Method Statements are in place.
  • The role will involve monitoring and implementing KPI’s and conducting regular site audits. The successful candidate will investigate all accidents/incidents/near-misses, identify root causes and propose remedial actions.
  • Monthly reporting of performance will be required.
  • You will be expected to deliver internal training and liaise with third party providers to organise additional courses.
  • The role will involve liaising with key stakeholders including senior management and regulatory authorities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • You will have previous experience of ISO45001, ISO 14001, and 9001 Management Systems.
  • You will have a complete understanding of the relevant regulatory requirements and best practice guidance.
  • You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You will also have a good working knowledge of IT systems and MS packages.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to health and safety.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate required as a minimum, with a NEBOSH Diploma being preferred.
  • Experience with the Environmental Permitting regime is advantageous.      
  • Previous experience working within the Waste Management, Chemical or Heavy Industry Sectors is desirable.
