MS31 – Electrical Engineer

Location: Aylesham, Kent

Salary: £27,000 per annum + £3,000 shift allowance

Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer on behalf of one of clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To be able to activate valves to maintain required amounts of water in boilers.
  • Required to adjust controls and/or valves on equipment to provide power, and to regulate and set operations of system and/or industrial processes.
  • To be able to analyse problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems. 
  • Monitor and implement PPM schedule etc.
  • Monitor and inspect equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, safety devices, and meters to detect leaks or malfunctions, and to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels, and make adjustments to maintain required levels.
  • Perform or arrange for repairs, such as complete overhauls, replacement of defective valves, gaskets, or bearings, and/or fabrication of new parts.
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of boiler operation, in order to ensure that boilers are operating properly.
  • Operate or tend stationary, boilers and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors and air-conditioning equipment, in order to supply and maintain steam or heat for buildings or pneumatic tools. 
  • Test boiler water quality or arrange for testing; and take any necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits.
  • Test electrical systems to determine voltages, using voltage meters.
  • Check the air quality of ventilation systems and make adjustments to ensure compliance with mandated safety codes.
  • Contact equipment manufacturers or appropriate specialists when necessary to resolve equipment problems.
  • Develop operation, safety, and maintenance procedures, or assist in their development.
  • Investigate and report on accidents.
  • Maintain daily logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
  • To have most recent updates/information on steam plant and air compressor operations.
  • Switch from automatic controls to manual controls, and isolate equipment mechanically and electrically, in order to allow for safe inspection and repair work.
  • Carry out any additional works as required by the Company.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of hot water systems, boiler theory and function, and chiller system theory.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire alarm systems theory and testing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of isolation valve theory.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer functions, safe systems of working. and
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical machine instrument washers and sterilizers.
  • Ability to participate in after hours on-call rotation.
  • Ability to understand technical electrical drawings.
  • Demonstrated, strong interpersonal communication skills, and to work independently, or in a group.
  • Ability to follow specific directions.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Hold a relevant electrical / Mechanical qualification.
