Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Boiler House & Combustion Engineer to join our clients new team in Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will be required to gain full DBS security vetting and as such must have 5 years full UK checkable work history. The successful candidate must have a full clean UK driving licence for this role.

The Role

Reporting to the Contracts Manager on site, you will work as part of the maintenance team to manage the maintenance of the steam boilers and other gas appliances on site. Carrying out engineering maintenance service activities and ensuring maximum operational effectiveness, through the introduction of new systems and procedures which will improve the reliability and energy efficiency of the site in line with current health & safety legislation. The boiler maintenance engineer will need to balance team skills with a hands-on practical approach to engineering issues on site.

Be part of the ‘On Call’ rota to support boiler room operations. To maintain the boiler room operations 365 days per year in accordance with: “Guidance on the Safe Operation of Steam Boilers (Ref: BG01) Edition 2 – March 2019 and / or Guidance on the Safe Operation of Hot Water Boilers (Ref: BG02) Edition 1 – May 2019 and Boiler Water Treatment (ref: BG04). When no boiler room work is required then must assist the rest of the maintenance team with their tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Ensure the safe operation and availability of the HTHW (steam) boilers on-site in line with all current legislation and company compliance
  •  Ensure the safe operation and availability of the MTHW boilers on-site in line with all current legislation and company compliance
  •  Ensure the safe operation and availability of the LTHW boilers on-site in line with all current legislation and company compliance
  •  Complete documented records of safety procedures for steam boilers including blow downs, water condition and water softening
  •  Diagnose and rectify minor faults with the equipment that you have been trained to carry out
  •  Ensure all chemicals are managed and controlled in line with all current COSHH requirements and relevant safety data
  •  Responsibility for control of Contractors working on or around the boiler house and other LTHW Boilers and plant around the site
  •  Ensure all boiler line equipment, comply with the required health safety and environmental standards
  •  Manage and produce accurate formal reports in accordance with business timetable
  •  Assist the operational teams with a range of other duties as may be required from time to time

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Be able to get to attend site within 1 hour when on call
  • Certified Industrial Boiler Operator (CertiBO)
  • Boiler Operations Accreditation Scheme (BOAS)
  • Extensive experience of working with industrial steam boilers
  • Experience of organising planned maintenance of equipment across a diverse campus
  • Up to date knowledge of required standards in compliance and safety
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to balance a varied workload and re-prioritise in response to changing business needs and unexpected engineering problems
  • Evidence of troubleshooting and fault diagnosis
  • Highly professional and able to deal with issues unaided
  • Must be driven and enthusiastic with a passion for engineering maintenance
  • Must be competent in the use of Trend Building Energy Management System
  • IT Literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build excellent working relationships

Desirable 

  • Water treatment experience
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering qualifications and experienced
