JA1001: Utilities and Facilities Engineering Lead
Location: Dulcote, Somerset
Salary: £45,000 +10% Bonus
Hours: Monday to Friday (45 hours per week)


Reporting to the Engineering Manger this role is responsible for managing the daily priorities of the Site Services Engineers to ensure that there is service delivery and support where required. The position is also responsible for managing our Site Security team.

This role will assist in the lead and delivery of asset care across the site, manage engineering systems for regulatory and local compliance and support the development of the wider Engineer and Operational teams to develop and improve site knowledge.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Managing the daily priorities of the Site Services Engineers to ensure service deliv-ery and support
  • Supporting Site Engineers to Identify, propose and implement utility reduction ac-tions
  • Maintaining building and facility standards
  • Managing the Site Security team and ensuring that standards are managed and maintained
  • Being responsible for all compliance activities on regulated systems such as Le-gionella, PSSR, LOLER, Effluent Discharge, water quality, AHU and fire detec-tion/suppression
  • Maintaining and supporting approved contractor register and the PTW system
  • Managing contractors and sign off critical maintenance and compliance activities
  • Carrying out engagement sessions with Operational teams to improve utility under-standing and impactEnsuring all managed engineering systems are adhered to, and all work is carried out to relevant legislation and guidelines
  • Monitoring and updating of key systems which include the BMS, Cooling Towers, Ef-fluent Plant etc
  • Delivering the shutdown maintenance activities and support out of hours require-ments

Key area of works:

Site Service Levels

  • Assist in and lead the delivery of asset care across the Utilities and Facilities Function
  • Carry out root cause analysis to determine and correct underlying performance is-sues including the expansion of the CBM program
  • Support the Site Services Team to maintain a high standard site with full compliance
  • Manage engineering systems for regulatory or local compliance
  • Support the development of the wider Engineering Team and engage with Opera-tional teams to improve site knowledge
  • Support site wide production delivery
  • Be the lead contact for crisis response with appropriate communication and escala-tion
  • Actively seek, support, and deliver improvement projects. Lead small- and large-scale projects with cross functional support
  • Positively engage with all functions of the Quarry operation to support development and behavioral change


  • Maintain a safe working environment for all people on site in compliance with company and legislative requirements
  • Follow all engineering health and safety procedures
  • Be involved in the health and safety team and carry out health and safety functions as required


  • Effective communication through formal and informal engagement with operational staff
  • To participate in meetings/trials where engineering input is required
  • Engage and support operational Teams to improve outputs and reduce defects and operational inefficiencies


  • Maintain Utilities, Buildings, and facilities in a working order in compliance with quality and technical requirements
  • Follow technical procedures related to general maintenance on site
  • Work closely with hygiene and operational teams to reduce Utility consumption and waste streams
  • Engage with cross functional Teams to reduce food safety risks and maintain excep-tional quality standards


  • At least 5 – 7 years’ experience working within an Engineering position
  • Experience of working in a food or other manufacturing environment, preferably in a shift engineering role
  • Demonstratable experience working within Site Services or Utilities and Facilities
  • Demonstratable leadership experience
  • Demonstratable experience of working in a customer focussed environment
  • Experience working to high standards with a will to develop a working knowledge of the Kitchen and be flexible across all areas
  • Mechanical and electrical certificate (NVQ3 or equivalent)
  • Pref: 18th Edition, BOAS, Legionella
