MS116 – Plant Operator

Location: Belfast 

Salary: £12.90 – £14.28 per hour DOE

Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently searching for a Plant Operator on behalf of our client. The plant operators are required to control and operate machinery used on construction sites and roadworks. Machinery includes 360 degree excavators, bulldozers and dumper trucks for moving earth; static tower cranes, mobile and rough terrain cranes for lifting and moving materials; and compactors such as rollers and small machines known as whacker plates used for flattening out work areas. Operators may also use forklifts and telescopic handlers to move or load building materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare machines for operation, select, change and operate special attachments.
  • Work under direction of supervisors and engineers from drawings and markers.
  • Load and unload equipment from low loaders and move it around work sites.
  • Service equipment by cleaning, lubricating and re-fuelling it and make minor adjustments and repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain duty of care for other users and work to occupational H&S requirements.
  • Carry out daily inspections.
  • Carry out weekly LOLER reports when appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience operating plant in construction work.  
  • CRS card is required or willingness to obtain one whilst in employment.
  • Have practical ability and be able to follow detailed instructions.
  • Have good eyesight, hearing and concentration.
  • Be physically fit and agile for changing attachments and climbing in and out of cabs.
  • Be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Read, write and speak English language at a level necessary for efficient job  performance.
  • Good knowledge of the utilisation and care of equipment and materials used.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety standards and practices applicable to work being done.
  • Have a basic knowledge of motor mechanic.
