AR133 – Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Leamington Spa

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

The successful candidate will be working with both the Production department and the Engineering department. This is an engaging and varied role, giving you the opportunity to utilise your creativity, practical knowledge, and technical expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Production by diagnosing and fixing problems with production equipment.
  • Make improvements to manufacturing processes to increase efficiency where possible.
  • Design replacement or modified components for machines when they need to be adapted or improved.
  • Contribute to the design of new machines.
  • Create operator instructions on SOP specifying how to manufacture parts. This may include creating process or production drawings if necessary.
  • Create technical drawings and documentation from customer concepts and specifications.
  • Upgrade legacy drawings, ensuring all dimensions and tolerances are specified correctly.
  • Design gauges for quality inspections based on part drawings.
  • Maintain and improve the current Engineering Change Management measures in place.
  • Communicate with external suppliers for specifications of tools and dies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical with Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing and Management, or similar, with a 2:2 or above.
  • 2+ years’ mechanical engineering experience (this could be during placements and university projects).
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD programmes to create 3D models and 2D drawings (this may include university or placements; Inventor or Fusion 360 preferred).
  • Familiarity with materials and manufacturing processes (especially die cutting).
  • Confident and proactive seeking out new knowledge; a quick learner.
  • Comfortable carrying out practical tasks on the shop floor.
  • Can present a portfolio of 2 to 5 engineering drawings. (These can be from previous employment, university projects, or placements, with sensitive information redacted as necessary, or you can create sample drawings to showcase your skills.
  • Conscientious, self-motivated, and pays attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering theory.
  • Knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes, materials, and Design for Manufacture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, and the ability to learn new concepts in this area quickly.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering design best practice, including tolerance analysis, rigorous dimensioning of parts taking into account their function, and document control.
  • Practical experience operating, building, and/or installing complex mechanical-electrical machinery.
  • Able to communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical team members.
