Location: Scaldwell

Salary: £43,000 + Overnight Allowance

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently supporting our client in the search for a Highways Maintenance Operative (Class 1/Class 2).

60 hours a week (0700 – 1900) Mon – Fri with regular nights away. 

Our client is keen to offer opportunities to Ex-Military personnel, but all applications will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• You will work as part of the construction team or defect team carrying out jobs such as paving, replacing kerbs, repairing potholes, replacing signs and other similar activities.
• You will be accountable for carrying out the works given to them in a safe, efficient and timely manner, and escalate any issues to their supervisor.
• To assist the Highways Maintenance Operative with the repairs of highway defects, using electronic devices to record works, ensuring current polices, strategies and national legislation are followed.
• To assist the Highways Maintenance Operatives in dealing with enquires logged by other department and recording and completing works as required.
• To ensure health, safety and welfare legislation, policy and best practise is adhered to.
• To liaise with colleagues and departments to achieve agreed objectives.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Current full UK driving licence.
• Manual Handling.
• Abrasive Wheels.
• CSCS card.
• HGV Class 1 and / or 2 essential.
• Ability to apply a range of generalist skills.
• Ability to use small plant and equipment.
• Good knowledge of Health and Safety and Risk Assessments.
• 1 year experience in Highways Maintenance.
• You will receive training on Health and Safety / Risk assessment awareness.
• Good understanding of risk assessments and assess according to safe systems of work.
• To understand and responsible for the safety of yourself and others.
• Team player, prepared to contribute and participate fully in teamwork.
• Prepared to work varying hours to meet the needs of the business.
• Prepared to develop and undertake relevant training and qualifications.
