Location: Sheffield
Salary: £33,000 – £35,000 per year + Benefits
Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Health & Safety Environmental Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.
The purpose of this role is the day to day implementation of the company’s Environment and Health & Safety Policies so as to ensure that the company remains in compliance with UK Environmental, Health & Safety legislation whilst facilitating a safe working environment for all employees and visitors and minimising the impact of operations on the environment. This role reports directly to the Quality Control & Process Engineering Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acting as Competent Person with respect to Health, Safety and Environment.
- Senior Fire Marshall for the Sheffield site.
- Fire Safety Order Responsible Person co-ordinating all fire safety activities.
- Completing general health & safety risk assessments, including PUWER, COSHH, DSE, Manual Handling, Ergonomic, Fire, etc.
- Supporting installation qualification tasks to ensure all equipment meets the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
- Factory security including alarm system and key control.
- Oversee contractor H&S and Environmental Induction including safe systems of work generation,
- First aid coordination, accident/incident investigation and RIDDOR reporting.
- Environmental & H&S Induction training for all new employees and ongoing training for existing employees.
- Advising on employee PPE allocations, and remedial actions if required.
- Registration and investigation of all H&S and environmental complaints.
- Delivery of training on learning outcomes from investigations as required.
- Coordination of occupational health surveillance.
- Environment impact identification, aspect rating, monitoring & measuring, energy efficiency and pollution control etc.
- Control of trade effluent discharge consents and subsequent sample collection for monitor & measurement by an approved subcontractor.
- Management of waste management including waste transfer note and ‘hazardous’ waste.
- Oversight of pest control activities by approved subcontractors.
- Ensure Environment and H&S records are maintained in good order and are fully traceable.
- Production and presentation of HSE performance reports to senior management.
- COVID 19 related health & safety activities to meet UK legal and company requirements.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Good standard of education, literacy and communication.
- Formal qualifications required in Environment and H&S Management e.g. CQI Certificate, IEMA Certificate, NEBOSH Certificate with membership of the relevant professional bodies.
- Computer literate with experience in all the Microsoft Office packages.
- An understanding of the importance of working in a highly regulated industry, ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, with the ability to ensure quality control activities meet all applicable standards.
- A good understanding of current H&S, Environmental Legislation ensuring that all processes meet requirements.
- Proven track record of working within successful cross-functional teams.
- Clarity of thought and understanding of processes in order to find suitable and sufficient engineering solutions for Health & safety and environmental problems.
- Able to communicate and work directly with all departments, functions, employees including regulatory bodies.
- Dogged and unswerving determination in promoting, developing and maintaining the company as a quality manufacturer and distributor of medical devices in a safe, low carbon emission and pollution free place of work.
