EJ756 – Electrical / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Portland, Dorset

Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 (based on qualifications and experience)

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide a full engineering support service to all areas of the business aiming to minimise machine and equipment downtime and maximise preventative maintenance.
  • To be responsible for monitoring machinery maintenance and servicing on site and liaising with service providers to carry out works when required.
  • To identify faults on all machinery and to liaise with service providers.
  • To carry out any minor servicing and routine maintenance on machinery.
  • Ensure that all engineering work is carried out in line with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation that the work area is left in a clean and tidy state after completion of the work.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments prior to commencement of work, where appropriate.
  • Carry out risk assessments for contractors and visitors on site relating to machinery.
  • Write and update maintenance procedures and all pertinent documents.
  • Assist contractors, where necessary, with installation and upgrade of any new plant equipment.
  • Ensure satisfactory completion of plant inspection schedules and planned maintenance.
  • Support and recommend changes to the Site manager to eliminate recurring faults.
  • Ensure that all current Health and Safety issues and safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Generate order lists to replenish engineering spares as necessary.
  • In the event of breakdowns, ensure that the plant is operational before leaving site.
  • Contribute to site effectiveness through co-operation and good communication with site staff.
  • Take part in training activities that the Company deems necessary to be either part of the job or an additional requirement.
  • Ensure site and stores kept in clean & tidy condition.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Site Manager to ensure the site is adequately maintained.
  • To ensure a safety first culture operates on site and ensure that all company rules and statutory requirements are adhered to.
  • To be audit ready at all times with relevant paperwork and quality audits completed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Ability to understand plant and electrical machinery so that issues can be identified and rectified.
  • Good problem-solving skills. 
  • Be able to execute and follow up small maintenance projects.
  • Should have knowledge and /or experience on control systems and instruments.
  • A recognised qualification (or qualified by experience) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BTech, ONC, HND, Degree, C&G Level 3, NVQ Level 3).
  • Extensive experience in a similar role/environment.
  • Computer literate.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
  • Flexible attitude to work including working unsociable hours and shift patterns including weekends, evenings and nights.
  • Be able to work under pressure and make reasoned decisions.
  • Have a professional attitude to the job.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
