First Military Recruitment are currently supporting our client in the search for an Assistant Project Manager.

The purpose of the Assistant Project Manager role is to deliver programme support to the Fflecsi and Concessionary Card schemes in Wales.

Our client is keen to offer opportunities to Ex-Military personnel, but all applications will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities of an Assistant Project Manager:

  • Support the Senior Project Manager to deliver the Fflecsi programme and the team delivering the Concessionary Card programme by applying robust project lifecycle methodologies (such as APM), implementing the project plan, schedule of all tasks, key milestones and resource management to ensure these are completed safely to time, cost and quality.
  • Support the proactive management of the Fflecsi network, by assisting in the re-tendering of new and existing services and supporting the bus decarbonisation plans to ensure the delivery of a high quality Fflecsi service.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders across the Fflecsi and Concessionary Card schemes by keeping in regular contact with them to keep them updated on developments and to understand and address any concerns they may have. 
  • Ensure strong relationships are maintained with Fflecsi operators by keeping in regular contact and monitoring performance metrics to make sure that contract and services requirements are met.
  • Ensure contact centre engagement is maintained by keeping in regular contact to monitor the frequency and nature of issues or queries arising that need escalating and to ensure advice is given when needed. 
  • Provide a professional and effective programme and project management service, by including project governance, reporting, technical working groups and executive steering groups, in accordance with the required processes and timelines to ensure the projects are aligned to company processes and delivered to cost and quality.
  • Track project progress and provide regular reports to a variety of stakeholders by supporting the Senior Project Manager to establish and implement the programme.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager by identifying and monitoring programme and project risks, including financial, reputational, quality, environmental and health and safety, collaborating with the appropriate company risk professionals and managing the risk register to ensure the company can implement effective mitigation.
  • Help to develop supplier and delivery partnerships within the Welsh economy by working with SMEs and other suppliers in local supply chains to increase the proportion of services undertaken by Welsh based businesses and reduce the aggregate cost of schemes.
  • Support the team in managing and updating the pipeline of consultancy opportunities by liaising with senior management to identify and record new opportunities to enable the company to create new revenue streams that will provide further investment into the company network.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree such as Business, Planning, Engineering (or similar) or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience of supporting the delivery of projects.
  • Experience of project administration.
  • Experience of developing constructive working relationships with supply chain partners and local authorities.
  • Possess or working towards a project management qualification such as APM or PRINCE2 or similar.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of administering project management documentation including project action trackers, programmes, project reporting, risk and issue processes.
  • Experience of working with the public sector and/or government officials.
  • Welsh language skills but not essential for the role.
