Introducing 'New Blood'

Over the last 6 months, we have recognised that a number of significant UK industries are looking at ways of bringing in ‘new blood’ to supplement and enhance their current workforce.  Many of you are probably well aware that the ex-military community is a great source for that new talent.  We are continually dealing with men and women who are exceptionally well trained and highly motivated and are in the process of leaving the forces and embarking on their first foray into commercial employment.

As a direct result of our partnership with a major UK construction business, we have introduced more effective ways of ensuring that we meet clients’ expectations with regard to not only the identification and selection of new talent but also their initial and continual professional development.  Our construction client was looking for a new source of talented and motivated junior managers who did not necessarily have direct construction experience rather they had proven leadership experience and the potential to be trained as a manager in the construction sector.  We were tasked in identifying and selecting Service leavers with the right personal qualities and determination that were put through an assessment centre and then brought onto a Fast Track Junior Management Programme that we would design and manage in partnership with the client company’s leadership and development team.

That programme is 10-months long and involves students being employed from the outset in an Assistant Site Management role where they are mentored day-to-day by an experienced Site Manager.  This mentoring is enhanced with a bespoke Directed Study Guide that we have produced on the client’s behalf.  In addition, we provide a regular number of off-site leadership, communication and soft skills development seminars with students to develop their overarching management potential.  Furthermore, we are able to continually assess students’ progress based on evidential learning and material and award an appropriate and relevant NVQ at the end of the programme – in the case of this particular client, a Level 3 NVQ in Construction Site Supervision.

In short, we have the proven ability to identify, recruit and train Service leavers to augment and enhance current headcount.  Our candidates are highly motivated men and women who are looking to dedicate themselves to second careers outside of the military. Indeed, many of them will have access to the MoD’s Enhanced Learning Credits which allows us to significantly discount the cost of any vocational training qualifications.
